The Eastside Heritage Center held a Haiku contest to celebrate Japanese heritage and culture on the Eastside! A Haiku is a classical Japanese poetry form. The standard Haiku format is a triplet of lines containing five, seven, and five syllables per respective line.

Participants were challenged to write a Haiku based on the theme: Strawberry Patch.

First Place:

Breathe sweet smell of fruit,

Walk through the strawberry patch,

Picking one by one.

Second Place:

In a huge garden,

Crimson berries everywhere.

What a splendid treat!

Third Place:

Strawberry patches,

Are dashes of red and green,

Seeds like stars that glow.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thanks to all who participated!
