The Fraser Cabin, built in 1888, comes to life with hands-on activities that relate to 1880s settler life. This heritage program is part of Kelsey Creek Farm’s Sheep Shearing event. This program is presented by the Eastside Heritage Center in partnership with Bellevue Parks & Community Services.

Watch the sheep being shorn of their winter coats. Enjoy wool spinning demonstrations, children’s crafts, tractor-pulled wagon rides, pony rides, food, animal viewing areas, and more. Free shuttle service available at Wilburton Park & Ride and Bannerwood Sports Park.

The Eastside welcomes Pride Month with the first-ever LGBTQIA+ dog jog & walk in Downtown Bellevue! The Bellevue Downtown Association and Eastside Pride PNW are proud to debut the inaugural Paws & Pride Dog Jog & Walk, supported by Symetra, on Sunday, June 4 at Ashwood Park – adjacent to Bellevue Library.

Focused on inclusivity on the Eastside, this event will spotlight Eastside Pride PNW and their vision of a world free of prejudice and bias where everyone is safe, valued and feels a sense of belonging. Event benefactors will be Seattle Humane of Bellevue and Lambert House, a community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth in the greater Seattle area.

Participant goodie bags will feature customized event bandanas– a memorable keepsake of this inaugural Pride event in the Heart of Bellevue. The event is a non-competitive 4k (~2.5 miles) stroll through the streets of Bellevue with your pup (those without dogs are welcome too). Complimentary event parking will be available at Bellevue Library, adjacent to Ashwood Park. Tickets on sale now! 

You do not need to register your dog, just humans.

Eastside Heritage Center está realizando entrevistas de audio como parte de un proyecto de historia oral contemporánea llamado "The Living History Project". El objetivo es conectarse con la comunidad para ayudar a capturar fragmentos de la vida en el Eastside a lo largo del tiempo. Las entrevistas resultantes formarán parte de la extensa colección de archivos de EHC a perpetuidad y se difundirán por toda la región a medida que crezca el alcance del proyecto.

Esta sesión de entrega se llevará a cabo el sábado 13 de mayo de 1 a 4 p.m. en Crossroads Bellevue en su Sala Comunitaria, dentro del centro comercial. La sesión está destinada a proporcionar un espacio para la conversación intencional entre el público (¡tú!) y el personal del Eastside Heritage Center. Se anima a las personas de todas las edades a participar por orden de llegada. Las entrevistas de audio durarán aproximadamente 15 minutos y requerirán una formulario de consentimiento para ser firmada por el/los participante(s).

Eastside Heritage Center is conducting audio interviews as part of a contemporary oral history project called "The Living History Project." This drop-in session will take place on Saturday, May 13 from 1-4 p.m. at Crossroads Bellevue in their Community Room, inside the mall. The session is intended to provide a space for intentional conversation between the public (you!) and the Eastside Heritage Center staff. People of all ages are encouraged to participate on a first-come, first-served basis. Audio interviews will last approximately 15 minutes and will require a consent form to be signed by the participant(s).

What to throw away and what to keep: Organizing your community records and family keepsakes

Let’s be honest, we can’t keep everything! This session will prepare you to evaluate your collections and determine what to preserve.  Be ready for lively conversation about saving or discarding materials, considering who will use the collection, and exploring options for the things you cannot keep. We present strategies and exercises to help you take stock of your papers, photos, digital files, books, and other historical materials and build a collection that you can manage.

Eastside Heritage Center will be at Medina Day this year! We will have a variety of hands-on activities for kids and adults.

  • What is it? - Test your knowledge of historical objects and learn about gadgets from the past.

  • Daisy - Little ones can try “milking” Daisy Belle, our wooden cow. (It’s only water)

  • Flying fish - create a flying fish kite and learn about the history of the Japanese community in Bellevue.

  • Knot tying - Learn how to tie a variety of nautical knots from our EHC Volunteer Mike Luis.

For those who would prefer a hands-off experience, we’ll have grab-and-go activities available upon request.

Hand sanitizer will be available for use. We will be complying with Washington State guidelines regarding masks and distancing.

McDowell House Anniversary Event

Come celebrate the completion of the Historical McDowell House’s 100th year. This two story structure was built using some of the last lumber to come out of the Wilburton Mill in 1918 by John H. and Ella McDowell. Over the decades the house was sold to a series of owners until it was bought by the City of Bellevue in 1988. It is now the headquarters of Eastside Heritage Center.

Come visit the house and learn more about this historic landmark on Saturday, August 24th. Enjoy historic displays, children’s activities, and share with us in honoring the history of the Eastside.

Eastside Heritage Center will be participating in the annual Arbor Day-Earth Day event at Lewis Creek Park. We look forward to seeing you there!

“Bellevue’s annual Arbor Day-Earth Day event will mark the city’s 28th year of being recognized as a “Tree City USA” community by the Arbor Day Foundation.  At 11:30 a.m., Bellevue park rangers and elected officials will plant a ceremonial tree and recognize environmental volunteers.  Local environmental stewardship organizations will host free activities and eco-demonstrations.  Plant a tree with your family!  Kids can grab an Arbor Day-Earth Day activities passport from a Park Ranger and journey through various eco-stations.  Completed passports will be entered into a prize drawing.“
